Foreign Exchanges 2011-12

Paris

The Cambridge University Law Society has been actively involved in a number of successful student exchange partnerships for several years. Cambridge students have been given the opportunity to visit locations such as Tel Aviv, Paris and Leiden for a week, giving them a fantastic opportunity to meet students from different parts of the world, sample the local student life, make international connections and even to decide whether to spend a year on an Erasmus programme.

Paris

The Law Society is proud to continue this well established exchange to the most romantic city in the world. Run by students for students, the exchange combines visits to Paris' well known sights and trips to various legal institutions to give a taste of life as a student on the continent.

Previous exchanges have included visits to the Cour de Cassation and a chance to meet a French politician at the Conseil Constitutionnel and have given participants the opportunity to experience the exquisite sightseeing, food and nightlife that Paris has to offer. The social side of the trip is key, as you will be living, going on excursions with and hosting your exchange partner during their visit to England; however it is also an excellent opportunity to find out more about career opportunities, with a chance to network during visits to the Herbert Smith offices in both London and Paris .

The organisers are looking for participants who are outgoing and friendly, but also with an interest in the legal and cultural aspects of the exchange. Speaking French is definitely not a requirement, and our generous sponsors Herbert Smith cover most of the costs, with participants usually only having to pay travel and miscellaneous expenses. Trips usually run at the end of Michaelmas and Lent.

Madrid

This year the Law Society is hoping to provide an entirely new exchange to Madrid. The final details are yet to be confirmed, but it will be run in the same format as the Paris exchange. Universidad Autonoma de Madrid boasts the most prestigious Faculty of Law in Spain; and Madrid's fascinating cultural sights, exciting nightlife and of course the feast of restaurants and tapas bars it hosts promise to make this an unforgettable trip . As with the Paris exchange, speaking the language is not a requirement, and the Society aims to have the majority of costs covered by the generous support of Herbert Smith.

Look out for the CULS email with details on how to apply - in the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact us at foreign-affairs@camlawsoc.com or individually: James Hollingshead (jh700@cam.ac.uk) or Issy Campion (ismc2@cam.ac.uk)
