Areas of Work

Clifford Chance's lawyers advise internationally and domestically, under both common law and civil law systems. The range of work performed by the firm worldwide can be divided into six main areas: Banking and Finance, Capital Markets, Corporate, Litigation and Dispute Resolution, Real Estate and Tax, Pensions and Employment. Vacancies: The firm plans to take on 120 trainee lawyers in each of the next few years, from both law and non-law backgrounds. Nearly all trainees remain with the firm after qualification.

Training: Training involves spending four six-month "seats" each in a different department (e.g. banking, corporate, derivatives, insolvency, insurance, litigation, real estate, securitisation, shipping, tax). Most trainees interested in an international secondment get to spend six months abroad.

Vacation work: We run a series of workshops at Christmas, and vacation schemes during the Easter and summer holidays. The placements will vary between two to four weeks depending on the scheme you join. During the scheme, students will have the opportunity to work on 'live' projects and to attend a series of seminars about the firm's main areas of expertise. We also organise a variety of social events and lunches with our trainees, lawyers and partners.

A number of international placements will be available during the summer. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to spend two weeks in London followed by two weeks in one of our European offices.
